PARTY TUTORIAL: HOMESTYLE TAILGATING
This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of RAGÚ® Homestyle Pasta Sauce. All opinions are entirely my own.
It’s almost time for The Big Game and that means it’s time to get your game plan ready if you’re hosting football fanatics on the day! Since we will be watching indoors this year, I decided to serve food and beverages with a homegating theme! Those of you who have read my blog before know that I’m of Italian heritage and love to infuse a lot of my dishes with my favorite Italian flavors. Thanks to RAGÚ® Homestyle Pasta Sauce, I got to do just that with my homestyle tailgating recipes for The Big Game! RAGÚ Homestyle Pasta Sauces can be incorporated into all kinds of recipes, not just pasta! Don’t believe me? Head to your local Kroger store to pick some up and follow the recipes below for an Italian spin on a couple of classic American dishes. Your homestyle tailgating guests will be pleasantly surprised with the heartier flavors packed into these all-time favorites thanks to RAGÚ! RAGÚ’s farm grown, peeled, chopped and simmer ingredients lets you see, smell and savor their longstanding tradition of fresh tastes and robust textures without any artificial flavors or high-fructose corn syrup.
Italian Nachos Grandissimo
1 jar (23 oz.) RAGÚ Homestyle Cheese Pasta Sauce (or RAGÚ Homestyle Meat Pasta Sauce)
1 bag tortilla chips
2 heaping handfuls black olives, sliced
8 oz. Mozzarella cheese, shredded
1/2 green pepper, diced
1/2 red pepper, diced
6 Cremini mushrooms, diced
3-4 spicy Italian sausage, sliced
1 shallot, diced
1 clove garlic, minced
(Optional) A few sprigs of parsley, for garnish
Chop up mushrooms, peppers and sausage into small bite-sized bits.
Mince garlic and small dice shallots. Heat 1 tbsp of olive oil on medium-high heat and sauté garlic and shallot for a few minutes until fragrant. Add mushrooms and peppers and sauté, stirring occasionally until soft. At the same time, lightly spray a small nonstick pan with cooking oil and add sausage slices. Cook both the meat and vegetables for 7-10 minutes until thoroughly cooked. Remove from heat and set aside.
You can get started on your turkey meatball sliders now and finish off your nachos while the meatballs simmer. When you’re nearing ready to finish your nachos, pre-heat oven to 350°F. Pour 1/2 a bag of tortilla chips into a baking dish/casserole dish, sprinkle with Mozzarella cheese and a small handful of each topping. Pour remaining 1/2 of tortilla chips into dish and sprinkle with majority of Mozzarella cheese, olives, mushrooms, peppers and sausage. Bake nachos for 5-7 minutes until cheese is melty, gooey goodness. While the nachos bake, heat RAGÚ Homestyle Cheese Pasta Sauce (or RAGÚ Homestyle Meat Pasta Sauce) in a saucepan on medium-low heat until hot. Remove nachos from the oven when the cheese is melted to perfect and drizzle a generous dose on RAGÚ Homestyle Cheese Pasta Sauce (or RAGÚ Homestyle Meat Pasta Sauce) all over your nachos. Garnish with parsley to finish!
Delizioso Off-Side Sliders
1 jar (23 oz.) RAGÚ Homestyle Traditional Pasta Sauce (or RAGÚ Homestyle Roasted Garlic Sauce)
1/4 cup breadcrumbs
1/4 cup parsley leaves, chopped
1/4 cup parmesan cheese, fine grated
1/4 cup Pecorino Romano cheese, fine grated
1 tbsp tomato paste
3 cloves garlic, minced,
1/2 onion, small diced
1lb minced turkey
Grate cheese, dice onion, mince garlic and chop parsley. Combine all ingredients except turkey and sauce in a large bowl. Add turkey to mixture and get authentic Italian with it… use your hands to knead ingredients together so they are all thoroughly combined!
Once again use your hands to roll small to medium sized meatballs and lay them out on parchment paper making sure to keep them separated.
Heat 2-3 tbsp of oil in a large pan on medium-high heat. Add meatballs and toss very carefully to brown all sides without causing them to lose shape or break apart. Once meatballs are browned on all sides, add RAGÚ Homestyle Traditional Pasta Sauce (or RAGÚ Homestyle Roasted Garlic Sauce). Once Ragu Homestyle Traditional Pasta Sauce (or RAGÚ Homestyle Roasted Garlic Sauce) starts to bubble, lower heat and allow to simmer for 15-20 minutes.
Slice open slider buns and add one meatball with a spoonful of RAGÚ Homestyle Traditional Pasta Sauce (or RAGÚ Homestyle Roasted Garlic Sauce) to each bun. Hold slider together with a fun and festive football pick!
Serve up your RAGÚ Homestyle Pasta Sauce covered turkey meatball sliders and Italian-style nachos, get your game face ready and let the homegating begin.
I found cute football-themed individual serving trays to add to my homestyle tailgating experience but plates will do if you can’t find them! Serve up with soda or beer and enjoy The Big Game!
